New feature allowing users to present their screens as well as their camera within activity questions. The feature has been designed to allow users to swap between screens while sharing and even stop sharing entirely, continuing with just their camera recording.
Activity Creation
When creating an activity, you’ll now find a dropdown menu next to each question where you can select if screen recording is required. By default, the system will choose ‘camera only,’ but you can easily switch to screen recording by selecting it from the dropdown.
In-Activity Instructions
Once a user starts an activity, any screen recording-enabled questions will come with clear instructions on how to proceed.
Click the ‘Select your screen’ button and the browser will provide you with options to share your screen.
(note: each browser operates differently at this step but the end result is the same)
Choose the screen you wish to share. This will automatically place your selection as the primary window on your screen. Navigate back to the activity tab and you will then be asked to confirm your choice before continuing. If you are happy with the selection then click the ‘Yes’ button.
There are also options available to choose an alternate screen to share or stop sharing entirely.
You can also change the screen you’re sharing or stop sharing at any time. Even after confirming, you’ll have one last chance to make adjustments by clicking the ‘share something else’ link. Once you’re ready, click ‘Let’s go’ to proceed to the question and start your thinking time.
Once thinking time ends and the answer time begins, a timer will appear in the activity window, helping participants keep track of their remaining time while working across multiple browser tabs.
Review Process
For those reviewing the answers, screen recording questions will be marked with a new icon, making them easy to identify. The screen share will appear as the main background in the video player, while the participant’s camera view will be shown in the corner. If a user cancels screen share before submitting their answer, the camera view will fill the video player.
Updated Email Notifications
When screen recording is required for any questions, the email template sent to participants will automatically update to notify them that screen recording is necessary. Below is an example of the message:
Note: screen recording is not available on mobile devices. Any activity with one or more screen recording enabled questions must be completed on a laptop or desktop. The platform will not allow a user to continue on these activities via a mobile device and we signpost clearly at several stages of the process to highlight the requirement for using a desktop/laptop device.
